Let's get straight to the point
Honestly, I don't want to ramble on with a "I've done this and that, blah blah blah" presentation, because that doesn't benefit you, and I've already moved past that self-centered phase of, "Hey! I released a song, look how special I am, pay attention to me."
That's why the only thing I'm going to mention is that, yes, I'm in my early thirties, and I've been tinkering with things in a DAW since I was 15 or 16. I've released various international projects under the pseudonym Lagware, all with different results. My name is José, but I prefer to go by Josal. All of that has obviously given me an experience that it was high time to share.
Lagware was born as a project intended to represent my taste in music oriented toward science fiction, darkness, strange textures, etc. This was all wrapped up in an aura of anonymous, slightly mysterious (and, why not say it, a little stupid) mysticism—the whole trend when I started. You know: dark, blurry photos, black clothes....
The thing is, it's a project I really like, but the direction isn't right. Essentially, my destiny seemed to be a Techno DJ, and I don't even like the nightlife. So, after a lot of soul-searching and turning to other sources of inspiration like B-Movies and futuristic video games, I thought, "Wait a minute, what if I made music for audiovisual projects?"
So, here we are, with this new direction, and I'm ready to participate in projects with deep, cool stories that need background noise to support their arguments.
Why Audio and Not Anything Else
I couldn't tell you exactly why audio. No one in my family ever had the same sensitivity I have for music, and the world of sound in general (both technically and conceptually). But by the time I was 14, I was absolutely sure I wanted to dedicate myself to this world one way or another, which I made clear to my high school guidance counselor.
I didn't have much of a plan, but the seed was already planted, and the funniest thing is... I have no idea where it came from.
As I mentioned earlier, my destiny was to be a DJ. I started doing that at 16, but in my early twenties, I realized that the nightlife isn't for me. Nevertheless, I happily continued making electronic music, and I saw results during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was published by the Axis record label. This label belongs to Jeff Mills, one of my favorite and most renowned artists in the world of electronic music.
I could have kept pushing in that direction. Did I like what was waiting for me? No. So, I dropped it for a while, stuck with my regular job, and that was that.
But your purpose is always waiting for you, even if you look the other way. My obsession with samplers, synthesizers, harmonies, and noise in general started manifesting itself again. I don't know how to describe it because it's something that just overtakes me. So, after thinking it over and discussing my idea of offering online audio services to help others with things I already know, everyone in my inner circle encouraged me to go for it. They told me to help as many people as possible with their projects while also continuing with my own.
I'm here to help you.
Having said all that, the purpose of my new project is to use music, audio effects, and post-production to help you amplify the story you are trying to tell, allowing us to successfully touch the emotions of the audience the work is intended for.
Movies, shorts, trailers, video games, internet content—to me, all of this is art. Aside from the perceived quality of the image, if the sound doesn't support it, the message gets diluted. That's not what you want. You want that message to stick as much as possible, even in this fast-paced, consumption-driven society.
That's why, if you'd like to contact me, I'm leaving this button right here. It will take you to a form where you can tell me how I can help you with the audio for your project.
